Complaints Procedure

Any complaints about a barrister or member of staff should be made initially to the Senior Clerk. A leaflet explaining Chambers' complaints procedure is available to download here. Hard copies can also be obtained by phoning or emailing chambers.

Quality Standards

Wilberforce Chambers' clerks adhere to the Quality Standard for clerks. Four aspects of the work of the clerk's room are seen as particularly important

Efficiency

Wilberforce Chambers' clerking team have a pre-eminent reputation for efficiency and professionalism. The administration systems in the clerking room are the most modern and highly developed at the Bar. Through training and assessment, members of the clerking team work to ensure that all cases are handled in the most efficient, effective and prompt way. Chambers does not compromise in the reliability of its service to its clients.

Realism

The clerking team is acutely aware that clients need to know that barristers will be in a position to respond to their needs at the speed required by modern commerce, and that they will be kept informed of the progress of their case. The team are always aware, therefore, of the capacity of barristers to take on new work; ensuring in this way that barristers do not become over-committed and give each case the deserved attention. There is also a strict policy not to double book barristers for hearings in Court unless the client agrees.

Flexibility

A strong feature of Wilberforce Chambers' clerking team is that it is indeed one, working, team. Strong lines of communication ensure that the team can be certain that client's needs are being met without delay, on every occasion.

Friendliness

Our clerking team will always supply an efficient service in an accessible manner. The team is aware that friendliness matters just as much today as it ever did. Clerks are always happy to discuss experience, suitability and availability of Counsel and on request a member of the senior clerking team will be pleased to visit your firm to discuss the finer details of members' practices and charges.

Fees

From start to finish, the clerks will advise the clients on the experience, suitability and availability of counsel for both court cases and advisory matters. The senior clerking team are happy to visit solicitors in their offices to discuss the finer details of members' practices and all clerks will provide full advice on fee levels and briefing arrangements and the various ways in which cases can be charged. Fees are structured as accurately and appropriately as possible for each individual case.

Equal Opportunities

Chambers is committed to equal opportunities in all aspects of its work. All barristers are committed to observe the Bar Council Code of Conduct and Code for Equality in relation to non discrimination in the acceptance of work, the carrying out of that work and all dealing with clients, colleagues, staff and others. All staff are committed to comply with this policy.

It is our policy to treat everyone equally and fairly regardless of their racial group, colour, ethnic or national origin, nationality, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, religion or political persuasion.
