Emer has a broad commercial chancery practice, encompassing a wide range of Chambers' practice areas, including:

Emer regularly appears in the County Courts, the High Courts and before a variety of tribunals, both on her own account and as a junior.  She undertakes both drafting and advisory work, and has worked as part of a large team on a number of high profile, complex pieces of litigation.  Much of Emer's work involves an international element: she has recently worked on cases raising issues in the British Virgin Islands, Saudi Arabia, Anguilla, Gibraltar and Jersey. 

Recent experience includes:

  • Successfully representing a notary accused of professional misconduct;
  • Acting as junior to Terence Mowschenson QC in a multi-jurisdictional case involving pension scheme investments, raising issues of civil fraud, breach of trust and professional negligence;

  • Successfully defending at trial a property managing agent pursued by a contractor for payment of certain invoices, raising issues of agency and incorporation of contractual terms;

  • Acting with Rupert Reed in a complex claim involving an alleged fraud perpetrated upon Middle Eastern investors who advanced significant sums of money towards a large property development in London;

  • Representing LPA receivers in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal in an application for a determination that a breach of covenant in a lease had occurred;

  • Acting as junior to Michael Bloch QC to advise and represent a well-known manufacturer of optical products in a cross-border contractual dispute with its Greek distributor. In those proceedings, Emer successfully argued in a High Court application for the withdrawal of a Part 36 offer: Erghani SA v Sauflon Pharmaceuticals Ltd, LTL 6/10/2010 Document No. AC0126239, Civil Procedure (The White Book) 2011 36.3.4.

Qualifications

Emer was a Younger Society Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford, where she read Jurisprudence: Law with Law Studies in Europe (French) (First Class Honours).  She finished second in her year, winning the Martin Wronker Law Prize, proxime accessit and the Slaughter and May Prize for the Best Performance in Contract.  She also received a Certificat supérieur de droit français (Mention bien)During Bar School, Emer was awarded the Sir Stephen Chapman Scholarship and a Duke of Edinburgh Entrance Award from the Inner Temple. 

Before coming to the Bar, Emer worked as a legal research assistant at the University of Oxford and as a trainee at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
