Joanna Smith QC

Practice Overview

Joanna's litigation practice encompasses advice and advocacy across a broad range of commercial/business litigation. She has extensive experience in the fields of professional liability and commercial litigation of all kinds (including banking/finance). 

She regularly advises and appears in highly complex cases in all divisions of the High Court and her broad experience includes, in addition, the fields of  Construction,  insurance, international arbitration, adjudication, mediation and regulation. 

Professional Reputation

Joanna was appointed a silk in 2009.  The Legal 500, 2009 described her as "a hard worker, real team player and a formidable opponent".  The Legal 500 2010 describes her as "great with clients, responsive and dedicated"

Recent editions of the directory have described her as "phenomenally good", "particularly highly recommended" and "gaining [an] impressive reputation in the market". 

Qualifications

Joanna obtained a First Class degree in Jurisprudence from Christ Church College, Oxford, and won the John V Lovitt prize for jurisprudence. 

In 1987, 1989 and 1990 respectively, she was awarded Hardwicke, Mansfield and Denning scholarships by Lincoln's Inn.
