Practice Overview
We are very pleased to announce that John Furber QC has been appointed Chairman of the Property Bar Association.
John's practice is principally devoted to all areas of real property law and litigation, with particular emphasis on commercial leases and issues related to property development. He also has many years of experience in the law and practice of town planning and compulsory acquisition of land.
Much of his work is advisory, rather than litigious, dealing with matters such as restrictive covenants, easements, development agreements and rent reviews; however, litigation has always been an important part of his practice.
Professional Reputation
John is recommended in Chambers and Partners for real estate litigation and the Legal 500 for property litigation.
In Chambers and Partners (2011) he is described by clients as follows: "the rock upon which many an opponent founders" and "very impressive in his presentation and up for it when in court, he outshines the other side".
Memberships
- Chancery Bar Association
- Chairman of the Property Bar Association
- Planning and Environment Bar Association.
Publications
Since 1982 John has been an editor of Hill and Redman's law of Landlord and Tenant and is now the general editor of that work.
Together with other members of Wilberforce Chambers, he was the author of a Guide to the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002. In the past he has contributed to Halsbury's Laws on Landlord and Tenant and on Compulsory Acquisition.
