Christopher's practice includes a substantial property component, particularly appellate work and technical aspects of property law.

Recent and notable cases include:

  • Acted for successful appellant to the House of Lords in dispute over price formula in development contract.  This appeal re-examined the rule that negotiations are inadmissible on a question of construction and was also the first House of Lords case in many years to consider the doctrine of rectification: Chartbrook v Persimmon Homes [2009].

  • Acted for successful appellant to the House of Lords in leading case on reverter under the School Sites Acts: Fraser v Canterbury Diocesan Board of Finance [2005].

  • Acting for tenant in test case in Court of Appeal as to whether a virtual assignment is in breach of covenant in a lease: Clarence House v Natwest [2009].

  • Acted for successful respondent in Court of Appeal in resisting claim that a development was held on constructive trust for a potential joint venture partner: Kilcarne v Targetfollow [2005].

  • Acted for successful respondent recivers in Court of Appeal in resisting claim that receivers acted in breach of duty in selling development sites: Silven v Royal Bank of Scotland [2004].

  • Acting for developer in claim against firm of solicitors for the tort of abuse of process: Land Securities v Fladgate Fielder [ongoing].
