Edward's experience includes acting for and against banks and financial institutions.  Such cases have involved issues particular to banking law and practice, as well as more general legal issues arising in the context of disputes involving banks or investment funds.  Edward has also participated in giving a series of seminars on hedge funds.  Cases include:

  • Acting as junior counsel for the banks involved in Re Manx Electricity Authority, a dispute about £120 million loan finance for the Isle of Man's new power station (see The Guardian, 30 June 2005).

  • Advising on a dispute about ownership of a Gibraltar investment fund.

  • Acting as junior counsel for the main defendants during the five month Chancery Division trial in Langbar International v Rybak, a case concerning allegedly forged Certificates of Deposit of over US$600 million (see The Lawyer, 24 September 2007 and [2007] All ER (D) 178 (Aug).

  • Acting for the claimant in a claim against a major investment bank for breaches of the FSMA regulatory regime in the conduct of investment business.

  • Acting for the defendant brokers in a claim by an investor in relation to futures trading.
