International & Offshore CV
A large part of Edward's practice has been spent working on major offshore trusts cases or cases with a foreign company law element. In recent years, Edward has been heavily involved in the Re Jahre trust litigation in the Cayman Islands concerning claims for US$250 million alleged to belong to a Norwegian shipping tycoon. The case was described by The Independent, 27 October 2008 as "truly epic litigation" of "mind-numbing complexity" and by The Lawyer, 22 September 2008 as "among the longest-running cases in legal history". Edward was instructed as junior counsel in a three month trial in 2003 and a four month trial in 2008, both of which settled. Other cases include:
- Being involved in the drafting of the Charter for a Foundation under the Bahamian Foundations Act 2004 for a multi-billion dollar fund.
- Advising on a dispute about ownership of a Gibraltar investment fund.
- Acting as junior counsel for the banks involved in Re Manx Electricity Authority, a dispute about £120 million loan finance for the Isle of Man's new power station (see The Guardian, 30 June 2005)).
- Acting as junior counsel to a director of a Bermudan company accused of fraudulently profiting from his office.
