Professional regulation

Joanna's professional negligence practice has also led her to become involved in regulatory work, most recently acting in cases involving veterinary surgeons, barristers and actuaries.

Joanna's work for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has taken her on appeal to the Privy Council on four separate occasions, the most recent being a one day hearing in November 2011 which involved a substantive appeal against the strike off of a veterinary surgeon by the Disciplinary Committee of the College after a two week trial (at which Joanna also appeared).  Questions of bias, fairness and infringement of Article 6 were all argued before the Privy Council which gave judgment in December 2012 upholding the decision of the Disciplinary Committee: Homes v Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons [2011] UKPC 48.

Joanna is a member of the Barristers Complaints Advisory Service and regularly advises in respect of, and appears on behalf of members of the Bar at, disciplinary hearings. On average, Joanna assists between 5 and 10 members of the Bar a year and has done upwards of 20 hearings involving allegations of misconduct against barristers.
