Jonathan has substantial and varied experience in the field of private client work. He has spent considerable periods involved in large scale trusts litigation (onshore and offshore) and has also experience in both contentious and non-contentious estates work. Jonathan regularly acts on behalf of charities in this area. Jonathan also acts for HM Revenue & Customs in respect of estates-related tax disputes.
Recent/notable cases include:

Acting for defendant trust protector in multi-party breach of trust claim in respect of Gibraltar-based trusts (with Christopher Nugee QC) (2009).

Acting for the defendants in the Cayman-based Re Jahre litigation involving claims for US$250 million alleged to belong to a Norwegian shipping tycoon: the case was described by The Independent (27 October 2008) as "truly epic litigation" of "mind-numbing complexity" and by The Lawyer (22 September 2008) as "among the longest-running cases in legal history" (2008).

Acting for HM Revenue & Customs in an inheritance tax dispute concerning the applicability of agricultural relief (2009).

Advising claimant beneficiaries on allegations of undue influence and fraud in respect of the drafting of a will (2009).
