7/12/2007

We are pleased to announce that Wilberforce Chambers were awarded 'Chambers of the Year' at the 2007 British Legal Awards on 28th November 2007. The awards ceremony, hosted by Legal Week took place at Old Billingsgate Market London.

Wilberforce were among six shortlisted Chambers which included:
3 Verulam Buildings, Essex Court Chambers, Maitland Chambers, Monckton Chambers and Serle Court.

Legal Week summarises:

"But the winner of this year's Chambers of the Year award goes to Wilberforce Chambers, which has enjoyed sustained growth off the back of a raft of high-profile cases, including the landmark divorce case Charman v Charman and the inquest into the death of Princess Diana. The judges were particularly impressed by the set's retention record. To date it has yet to lose a tenant to another set of chambers. This year has also seen a shake-up of the firm's leadership following the decision of Edward Nugee QC to stand down after 30 years. Under the new constitution, a head and deputy head are voted in every four years. They are supported by a committee structure, which has been set up by highly-regarded senior clerk Declan Redmond, the current chairman of the Institute of Barristers' Clerks'. Legal Week.
