Head Practice Manager
Mark is responsible for the overall management of the clerking team. He works closely with the team leaders, focusing on the development of the barristers’ practices, management of their diaries, fee negotiation, client service and business development.
Mark also assists Nick and John in developing and implementing the strategic business plan for Chambers and plays a key role in managing and developing client relationships, both in the UK and offshore.
The 2017 edition of The Legal 500 says: the “extremely knowledgeable” Mark Rushton is “simply fantastic with instructing solicitors”; “he knows his clients inside out and ensures the team consistently delivers excellent service”. Chambers UK, 2018 edition, notes that Mark Rushton and Practice Director Nicholas Luckman help “set Wilberforce apart” and “can be the determining factor” in achieving a successful outcome.
As well as being a member of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks, Mark sits on the organisation’s Executive and Management Committees. He is also the current Chancery Secretary and is a past Education Secretary.
Mark has achieved a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. He is the IBC representative for the Customer Services Improvement Board of the Royal Courts of Justice/Rolls Building and sat on the Rolls Building External Stakeholder Group. He is the principal contact for the Bar Pro Bono Unit and FRU, and is also a member of the LPMA and INSOL.
