Head Practice Manager
Mark is responsible for the overall management of the clerking team. He works closely with the team leaders, focusing on the development of the barristers’ practices, management of their diaries, fee negotiation, client service and business development.
Mark also assists Nick and John in developing and implementing the strategic business plan for Chambers and plays a key role in managing and developing client relationships, both in the UK and offshore.
The 2020 edition of The Legal 500 notes that Mark runs ‘a very slick operation’ that befits the calibre of the set’s members. The ‘fabulous’ clerking team ‘delivers a service with professionalism and integrity’.
The 2020 edition of Chambers & Partners 2020 describes Mark as “excellent, responsive, and knowledgeable on which barristers are appropriate for which matters” and is praised as “one of the best in the business”.
The 2019 edition of The Legal 500 says that Mark is “responsive and sensitive to client needs and oversees a commercially focused clerks’ room” as well as praising Mark for “going out of his way to ensure a fantastic service and constantly asking how they can get even better.” Chambers UK, 2019 edition, notes that “Mark Rushton is an excellent operator” and has a “clear global reach and an understanding of key offshore markets.”
As well as being a member of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks, Mark is the Vice-Chair and sits on the organisation’s Executive and Management Committees. He is also a past Chancery Secretary and Education Secretary.
Mark has achieved a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. He is the IBC representative for the Customer Services Improvement Board of the Royal Courts of Justice/Rolls Building and sat on the Rolls Building External Stakeholder Group. He is the principal contact for the Bar Pro Bono Unit and FRU, and is also a member of the LPMA and INSOL.
