Andrew Rosindell MP v Romford Conservative Association features in national press

On Monday 30 March 2026 Tiffany Scott KC (instructed by Trowers & Hamlins LLP) successfully defended the Romford Conservative Association against an application by Andrew Rosindell MP to be re-admitted to his former constituency office.

Mr Rosindell had served Romford as its Conservative MP since 2001 and had occupied Margaret Thatcher House as his constituency office under a series of Service Agreements with the Association. He defected to Reform UK on 18 January 2026 but did not vacate the premises, and the Association changed the locks to deny him further entry on 18 March 2026. The Association argued that he occupied under a contractual licence, that it was an implied term that the arrangement would terminate automatically upon him ceasing to be a member of the Conservative Party, and that he had been given a reasonable time within which to vacate the premises. Mr Rosindell argued for a periodic tenancy and denied the existence of any implied term.

Mr Justice Choudhury held that Mr Rosindell’s case was “intrinsically weak” and that damages would be adequate to compensate him if he were obliged to move his office and find alternative accommodation whereas the damage to the Association of being required to accommodate a political rival was not quantifiable in monetary terms, particularly in the run-up to local elections due to take place in May 2026. The Judge dismissed the application and ordered Mr Rosindell to pay the Association’s costs.
